Fisherman eaten alive by two crocs as rescuers find grisly remains inside them

A fisherman was eaten alive by two crocodiles after his remains were found inside two of the beasts.

The grim discovery was made in Hinchinbrook Island off the Australian state of Queensland.

Fisherman Andy Heard, 69, from the city of Cairns was reported missing last Thursday afternoon when he did not return from an hour-long fishing trip.

His wife contacted the authorities when she couldn't reach him via radio. Police, the State Emergency Service and the Coast Guard then conducted a search of the area and his boat was found damaged the following morning.

Human remains were later found in the search area. A 4.2-metre crocodile that was found near the boat was caught and euthanised.

The second crocodile was then captured and met the same fate. It was between 2.7m to 3m long.

Australia's Department of Environment and Science said in a statement: "We have captured and humanely euthanised a roughly 3m crocodile overnight as part of our joint Hinchinbrook Island missing person investigation.

"The animal is now with @QldPolice & a necropsy will be conducted.

"As always, our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time."

Deadly crocodile attacks in Australia are very rare. There are roughly seven attacks per year with one or two proving fatal.

From 2015 to 2018 a total of four people were killed by crocodiles in Australia.

This is despite Australian MP Bob Katter launching a bizarre tirade when asked a question on gay marriage in November 2017.

He said: "I mean let there be a thousand blossoms bloom, as far as I’m concerned,” before launching into an abrupt segue.

"But I ain’t spending any time on it because in the meantime every three months a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile in north Queensland."
