Like everything this year, Bonfire Night will be a little different as England prepares to be launched into lockdown for a second time.

But households can still mark the occasion on November 5 in private if they choose.

Under new government restrictions households cannot mix except for exceptional circumstances.

However if you are lucky enough to have a garden there are no laws stopping you from enjoying the festivities.

But you will of course have to adhere to the usual rules when it comes to fireworks.

You cannot buy adult fireworks if you are under 18 in the UK.

Adult fireworks are category 2 and 3 fireworks – they do not include things like party poppers.

Category 4 fireworks can only be used by professionals, according to the Gov.Uk website.

In the UK you can only buy fireworks, including sparklers, from registered sellers for private use on specific dates.

Fireworks can only be purchased between October 15 and November 10, between December 26 and December 31 and in the three days prior to Diwali or Chinese New Year.

During the rest of the year you can only buy fireworks from licensed shops.

And it is usually illegal to let fireworks off between 11pm and 7am, except on certain occasions.

You can let them off until midnight on Bonfire Night – and later on New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year when the curfew is 1am.

People are more likely to plan to protect pets and vulnerable people if fireworks are let off on traditional dates.

It is best to check with your local council to find out about any specific restrictions in your area.

If you break the rules you can be slapped with a hefty fine or even face jail time.

You can be fined up to £5,000 and imprisoned for up to 6 months for selling or using fireworks illegally.

And you could also get an on-the-spot fine of £90.
