Fire destroys gazebo near Jefferson County courthouse in Golden
A gazebo, near the Jefferson County courthouse in Golden, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday night and an investigation is underway.
Witnesses called 911 just after 7 p.m. to report a “large” fire in bushes near the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility, 100 Jefferson County Parkway, said Karlyn Tilley, a Golden spokeswoman.
It took Golden firefighters about 40 minutes to put out the fire, which torched several trees and bushes. A gazebo, set in a memorial garden between a West 6th Avenue footbridge and the RTD Jefferson County Government Center — Golden Station, was completely destroyed. Several memorial markers, part of the garden, were also destroyed.
An arson investigation is ongoing.
