Fears for UK tourists after British car crashes in Spain killing one and injuring second

The accident happened yesterday afternoon on the CV-909 road near the town of Albatera, a 30-minute drive south west of Alicante in the Vega Baja region which was hit by devastating flooding last month. The man, who was thought to be driving and whose body had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters, died instantly.

Footage from the scene showed the blue Mazda involved in the smash crushed under an olive tree.

The nationality of the dead man has not been made public.

Local Civil Guards have launched a routine investigation. No other vehicle was involved.
