Collision involving motorcycle and pickup kills 1 in Napanee

A section of Pine Grove Road was closed on Saturday for a fatal collision in Napanee.

OPP says a motorcycle and a pickup truck hauling a trailer collided on Pine Grove Road between Stone Hedge and Westplain roads around 1 p.m., killing one person.

OPP have not released information about the deceased.

It’s currently unclear if charges will be laid, or what the cause of the collision was.

OPP have yet to release the identity of the deceased.

‘The Squad’: These are the four congresswomen Trump told to ‘go back’ to other countries

They’re young, charismatic and as some of the most liberal members of Congress who have drawn President Donald Trump’s scorn and have rankled party leadership on both sides of the aisle. 

Most recently, these freshmen Democratic congresswomen were seemingly the targets of Trump’s Sunday Twitter rant about four minority female House members.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done,” he tweeted. 

They are “the Squad.” 

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.; Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.; Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.; and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., have collectively come to be known by that label since taking office in January. The four have found common cause on a number of issues, most recently by becoming the only Democrats to vote against the House version of a border funding bill that was backed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Winnipeg police to release details of weekend homicide

Winnipeg police will be releasing details Monday morning about another local homicide.

This brings the city’s homicide total up to 25.

The city’s homicide rate has the potential to surpass 2011, the worst year in recent memory, when 41 people were killed in the city.

Trump’s new asylum rule is ‘patently unlawful,’ argues ACLU lawyer

WASHINGTON (AP) — An American Civil Liberties Union attorney says a new Trump administration rule that bars most Central American migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border is “patently unlawful.”

Attorney Lee Gelernt says the rule, if it goes into effect, would effectively eliminate asylum for those at the southern border.

Under the Immigration and Nationality Act governing asylum in the U.S., anyone can claim asylum at the border regardless of how he or she arrived. There are some exceptions, including whether an asylum seeker passed through a “safe” country first.

The new rule published Monday states that anyone who has crossed through another country to get to the U.S. is ineligible for asylum. It’s expected to take effect Tuesday. Tens of thousands of migrant families from Central America have been crossing the U.S.-Mexico border each month.

Attorney General William Barr says the new rule uses “a lawful exercise of authority” to crack down on asylum claims at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The rule was published Monday and will go into effect Tuesday, blocking migrants from seeking asylum in the United States if they’ve traveled through another country first. Tens of thousands of migrant families from Central America travel through Mexico to the U.S. each month, many claiming asylum.

Barr says the U.S. is being “completely overwhelmed” by migration at the southern border.

A legal challenge is expected.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (TEVA) announced the U.S. FDA has approved the company’s AirDuo Digihaler Inhalation Powder which allows patients to check the frequency of the use of inhalers. The company expects AirDuo Digihaler to become commercially available in 2020.

The AirDuo Digihaler Inhalation Powder has built-in sensors which sends data regarding inhaler use to a companion mobile application using Bluetooth Technology. It was approved for use in asthma patients aged 12 years and older. It was approved in a low, medium and high dose administered as one inhalation twice daily.

Famous British YouTuber dies in electric scooter accident

LONDON (AP) — The death of a British YouTuber in an electric scooter accident has raised concerns about the safety of the increasingly popular vehicles.

Emily Hartridge, who presented online series “10 Reasons Why,” was killed in a collision with a truck.

London’s Metropolitan Police said a woman in her 30s on a scooter died in a crash Friday at a busy intersection. Police didn’t name her, but Hartridge’s death was confirmed by YouTube and her boyfriend.

Nick Lloyd of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said it was Britain’s first death involving an e-scooter.

It’s illegal in the U.K. to ride motorized scooters on roads or sidewalks, but the law is widely flouted.

London police said Monday that a teenager is in critical condition after a separate e-scooter accident.
