Eye-popping mug of The Queen turns foreign exchange student ‘fully British’

An exchange student who has lived in the UK for five months filmed herself making a cup of tea – but all the attention was on her mug of The Queen

In a cheeky TikTok video called "Day 173 of living in England as a Japanese exchange student", Moey @osmoesis speaks with an exaggerated British accent and puts the kettle on to brew some tea.

Moey says: "I really want some tea. My golly – leaf soup."

It's the mug of Her Majesty that really caught people's attention though and many viewers begged to know where it was from.

The tongue-in-cheek design shows The Queen in a pink hat alongside the slogan "I eat swans".

Moey notes it's now impossible to get hold of the mugs on Amazon so it seems likely the unauthorised design has been removed from sale.

Although it is permitted to use the use of images of members of the Royal Family on "certain articles which are for sale" they must be in "good taste", according to guidance from royal.uk.

The video has been watched more than 280,000 times since it was uploaded on Tuesday (March 8) and viewers joked Moey was on her way to becoming a true Brit.

One viewer told her: "As an English person, this is a prime English Culture."

A second user confessed: "I tried to scroll away but that mug processed like five seconds later and I came back."

"That mug is legendary," commented a third.

A fourth said: "If I don’t wake up in the morning with that cup under my pillow I’m going to fly into the sun."

Someone else commented: "I feel like I need to make this clear. We don’t drink tea because Liz drinks tea in London. We drink tea because we are addicts."

Another viewer, sounding irate, wrote: "That was so hurtful, take it back right now."

It's an urban myth that The Queen eats swans and it probably came into being due to an odd law that means the monarch owns all of the country's unmarked mute swans.
