Ex-NFL star Tim Tebow says tearful goodbye to loyal dog before pet put down

Ex-NFL quarterback Tim Tebow bid a tearful farewell to his beloved dog Bronco in heartbreaking footage.

Tebow shared the tear-jerking video on Instagram yesterday, which starts with him giving the pet a piece of cheese.

An emotional Tebow breaks down in tears and hugs him for the final time.

He writes: "One of the toughest goodbyes. Wanted to make a special tribute to the sweetest boy ever.

"Thank you for all the joy you brought and all the memories.

"Aunt Patty, thank you for loving him, and thank you to all the other people including Miss Shea and Miss Mindy for sharing so much love with Bronco.

"If you had the pleasure of meeting Bronco, one of the best dogs ever, I would love to hear your story."

Presenter Jason Kennedy commented: "Love you bro. So sorry."

His girlfriend, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, wrote: "I wish I could take your heartache my love.

"My heart is broken too. Bronco was the sweetest son in the whole wide world."

The dog was named after the Denver Broncos, who Tebow was selected for in the first round of the 2010 NFL.

He is an long-time dog-lover and often spoke of Bronco as his "son"

Commenting on the choice of name, Tebow said: "It made sense when I just got drafted by the Broncos.

"We've always liked the name, we always liked that truck, so we talked about it and we were like, yeah, that's really cool."

Tebow quit the NFL after later stints at the New York Jets and back-up roles at the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

After that, he crossed sports to become a baseball player with the New York Mets.
