Ex-Liverpool star Dean Saunders’ ‘drink-drive’ jail sentence suspended

Ex-Liverpool star Dean Saunders has had his 10-week jail sentence for suspected drink-driving suspended for 18 months.

Saunders, 55, successfully appealed the sentence after he was stopped by police for "atrocious" driving on May 10.

He refused to give breath specimen before continuing his "obstructive and evasive" behaviour at a police station.

The officer who arrested him told the ex-Wales international: "You can't even stand up."

He will undertake 200 hours of unpaid work, and has been banned from driving for 30 months.

He had been jailed for 10 weeks on August 28 after he admitted to failing to comply with a roadside breath test and failing to provide a breath specimen.

Saunders had been on bail since August 29 until his appeal today.

Footage, released by the Crown Prosecution Service, emerged showing Saunders being stopped in his Audi A8.

It also showed his arrest and refusal to give a sample.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £620.
