Ex-con Marciano White charged in Chicago memorial shooting that injured 13
A convicted felon has been charged in the shooting Sunday that left 13 injured at a Chicago memorial party for an earlier gun violence victim, authorities said.
Marciano White, 37, was charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, Chicago police announced late Sunday.
He was busted while trying to flee the South Side house where at least two gunmen opened fire during a party honoring the birthday of a man who was shot dead in April, according to reports.
White was found with a firearm when he was eventually stopped, NBC Chicago said.
His rap sheet includes a 2006 narcotics conviction and another charge in 2007 for possession of cocaine, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He remains in custody and is due in Central Bond Court on Monday, the paper said.
Shots rang out just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday at the house party, leaving a 16-year-old boy among the 13 people hospitalized, police said.
The teenager, who was shot in the back, was listed in serious condition Sunday night, as two men, ages 21 and 40, remained critical, authorities said.
Thirty-eight people were shot over the weekend — with five of them killed, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“People deserve to live their lives without fear of someone pulling out a gun — especially in a moment of reflection and remembrance during the holiday season,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted.
