Evil ex-cop Wayne Couzens plans to appeal life sentence for horrific kidnap, rape & murder of Sarah Everard

EVIL Wayne Couzens is to challenge the whole-life sentence he was given for the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard.

The ex-cop abducted Sarah as she walked home from a friend's house in Clapham, south London, on the evening of March 3.

The officer had been "hunting" for a victim and used his warrant card and handcuffs to snatch her off the street.

He also used Covid lockdown rules to make a false arrest of the 33-year-old marketing executive.

Couzens pleaded guilty when he appeared at the Old Bailey in September, when Sarah's mum bravely read a victim impact statement to him.

Passing sentence Lord Justice Fulford said the circumstances of the case were "devastating, tragic and wholly brutal" and were so exceptional that it warranted a whole-life order.

It was the first time the sentence had been imposed for a single murder of an adult not committed in the course of a terror attack.

The judge said: "The misuse of a police officer's role such as occurred in this case in order to kidnap, rape and murder a lone victim is of equal seriousness as a murder for the purpose of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause."

In October, the Court of Appeal confirmed that Couzens’ application appeal against his sentence had been lodged.

On Friday, a Judicial Office spokesperson said that the hearing is likely to be in early May, adding that the date is not fixed and may change.

Couzens had served with the Met since 2018 and was attached to an armed unit responsible for guarding the London parliamentary estate and embassies.

The dad-of-two was then arrested at his home in Deal, Kent, six days after Sarah went missing.

It comes as it emerged he has been moved to a tough jail that is home to other sick killers including Ian Huntley and Levi Bellfield.

He has been switched from Belmarsh in London to HMP Frankland, Co Durham.

Inmates also include Lee Rigby’s killer Michael Adebolajo, cop killer David Bieber and Nazi nail-bomber David Copeland.

Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe was there until he died last year.

Couzens tried to kill himself while awaiting trial so he has been segregated on a wing for vulnerable inmates.

He said to have refused food and threatened to go on hunger strike in protest at his supposed harsh treatment in jail.
