A Brit pair who bagged £1million on the National Lottery Euromillions have revealed what they splashed the cash on.

Ruth and Rob Giblin won the seven-figure sum last year and have already spent a huge chunk of it on their first trip to London from their home in Telford, a holiday to Italy . . . and an eye test.

The couple also paid off their mortgage, had a new kitchen fitted and 49-year-old Rob quit his engineering job.

And Ruth, 45, has spent money on an extension for her parents home.

They have also bought some designer glasses and given a new home to a miniature schnauzer dog called Rohan.

Reflecting on their win, Ruth said: “'I do still have some pinch myself moments and then some days I go back to the old days when we couldn’t afford much.

“I remember not wanting to pay for a gondola trip in Venice because it was €80.

“I could have afforded it, but it seemed a bit of a rip off.

“I am quite a practical person, the first thing I bought was an eye test and glasses, having not been able to afford those before the win.”

Ruth said she found out she had won via the National Lottery app, having woken up early one morning to go for a swing.

“When we spoke to Camelot, they confirmed we were millionaires,” she recalled.

“We were just stunned and started crying, before waking up the kids to tell them the news.

“We then went across the road to my parents to tell them, on what was dad’s birthday.”

Rob said the winnings had meant the family, which previously had worried about money, now were able to able to extend his parents' house.

His parents look after Rob's sister who has additional needs, meaning there is now more space to care for her properly.

He is also in the market for a new job as a teaching assistant, too.

Rob explained: “I’m an engineer and love building stuff, so the thought of helping children make things in a DT class is very appealing.

“Without the win, I’d have had to continue in my job until I retired, never having tried anything else.

“Sometimes I have to pinch myself.”
