Emu up to 6ft tall on the run in days after separate bird is captured

This is the moment a woman tries to coax an escaped emu to safety in South Yorkshire – only to appear to have second thoughts when the giant bird gets up close.

The rogue flightless bird has been reported to the RSPCA and police but so far it's a mystery as to where it came from, according to Rooster Farm & Rescue Doncaster who recorded the footage.

Bizarrely, the bird is thought to have no relation with Ethel, a separate emu on the run in Doncaster this week, who has since been safely returned home.

Ethel, a 6ft emu, spent six days evading police but was eventually reunited with her owner Kelly Dobson.

In this latest clip, shared on Facebook, the emu stalks through a field while a woman and man attempt to coax it closer and then shepherd it along a dirt track.

Emus can reach a maximum height of 6ft 2ins, and the animal looks to be close to this size.

"Oh it's big!" says the woman as the towering bird marches towards her.

"Wow," she adds, "I've never been that close to an emu and it's making funny noises."

In the caption with the clip, Rooster Farm & Rescue said: "The Police and RSPCA have said that this emu has been recorded and will find its own way home.

"There is not much we can do at this point."

Unsurprisingly, the odd sighting has caused a bit of a stir and the video has been watched more than 3,500 times since it was uploaded this morning.

A supporter commented: "Good luck guys – you're saints."

Posting a laughing emoji, a second wrote: "If it is a different emu to last weeks I wonder why they all are deciding to go on adventures."

"Is this another one as Ethel was caught wasn't she," said another.

Admiring the bird, a fourth person commented: "Oh he/ she is gorgeous."
