The retiring sergeant, Zhang Wei, was leaving the barracks in China’s north-western region Xinjiang when the footage was filmed, reported Chinese media.

During his retirement ceremony, the officer is seen handing over the sniffer dog to his colleague as he prepared to leave.

As Zhang hugged another officer to say goodbye, Bei Bei suddenly bit the corner of his duffel dog, seemingly trying to stop its handler from walking away.

The sergeant immediately bent down and gave the detection dog a kiss. Trying to hold back his tears, the man can be heard saying: ‘Good boy. Now take him away.’

After Zhang got into the military car, Bei Bei started barking profusely before eagerly running towards the officer again.

The hound is seen resting its paws on the vehicle door, unwilling to move, as the officer rubbed its head and waved goodbye.

Bei Bei even tried to chase the moving car that carried its beloved best friend before it was pulled back by another officer.

The heart-warming video has touched millions of Chinese netizens who praised the ‘true comradeship and love’ between the handler and his animal helper.

Another trending clip has also captured the moment five sniffer dogs refused to leave their handlers as the loyal animal helpers retire from a fire brigade in China.

The retired canines will be looked after by local government, the fire brigade said.
