Elon Musk unveils Tesla’s ‘bulletproof’ Cybertruck but ends up smashing windows

This is the moment Tesla CEO Elon Musk tested the strength of a futuristic armoured vehicle in front of a live audience, only for the glass to shatter.

Cybertruck, the company’s first electric pickup truck, was unveiled at a glitzy cyber-punk themed event last night in Los Angeles, US.

Musk showed the audience incredible video footage of a bullet disintegrating upon impact with Cybertruck's “ultra-hard shell”.

In another impressive demo, a ball bearing dropped from height smashes ordinary glass but bounces straight off the Tesla-engineered glass.

Unfortunately, things went a bit sideways from there on in.

The footage shows Musk asking to Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen: “Franz, could you try to break this glass?”

He replies: “You sure?”

“Yeah,” says Musk.

Von Holzhausen launches the projectile with a strong overarm throw, only for it to shatter the glass.

“Oh my f***ing God,” says Musk as the audience erupts with laughter.

Recovering himself, the tech genius says: “Well, maybe that was a little too hard.”

He adds: “Well, it didn’t go through so that’s a plus side.”

They then test the same method on Cybertruck’s rear passenger window, but this one shatters too.

“It didn’t go through,” says Musk again, before reflecting, “Not bad, room for improvement.”

The video of the demo has been seen more than 200,000 times since it was uploaded on Youtube yesterday.

Many viewers reckoned Musk was distracted by the unexpected mishap.

“Elon's confidence drastically decreased after that glass shatter,” wrote one.

Another adds: “Whenever he looks back at the screen to read the specs, he sees the windows again and it really throws him off.”

Someone else mused: “He didn’t seem to recover once the glass broke.

“His body language changed, like he couldn’t wait to get off stage.”

However, many other viewers were impressed with Cybertruck and compared its look to the sci-fi film Blade Runner.

And, as Musk points out, the ball bearing didn’t actually penetrate the windows.
