Donald Trump provides update on US Presidential Election amid coronavirus pandemic

Fears have arose amid the coronavirus pandemic that election may have to be postponed to a later date for public safety. Speaking at the White House daily oressbriefing on Monday, the US president confirmed that he is not considering changing the date. President Trump said: “I never even thought of changing the date of the election.

“Why would I do that?

“November 3.

“It’s a good number.

The president was answering a question concerning rumours from Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden that Trump was considering changing the election date.

Mr Trump responded: “That was just made-up propaganda — not by him, but by some of the many people that are working, writing little statements.

“ I see all the time: ‘Statement made…’

“You say, ‘So, statement made per Joe Biden.’ “Sleepy Joe.

“He didn’t make those statements, but somebody did. But they said he made it. No, let him know I’m not thinking about it at all.”

Joe Biden said during an online fundraiser last week that President Trump will likely attempt to change the date of the election to keep ahold of power.

Biden said: “Mark my words, I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held.”

The president cannot by law unilaterally change the date of the election, which is due on November 3.

The coronavirus pandemic has led to fears within the Republican Party that the president’s handling of the crisis could lead to a major loss in November.

Chris Jankowski, a GOP operative based in Utah, spoke to CNN about the challenges Trump faces in re-elections after the crisis.

He said: “Ultimately this entire election is going to be determined on an issue set directly connected to coronavirus and the economy.

“As a result, the President’s performance and his role in guiding the country during that time frame is going to be incredibly important and will have a lot do with how Americans view Republicans, particularly those incumbent Republicans.”

President Trump has cause massive controversy this past week by suggesting that “injecting” disinfectants into patients may stop coronavirus.

The White House mostly avoided questions about Trump’s bizarre statements about researching injecting people with disinfectants Friday.

Trump abruptly exited Friday’s news conference without taking a single question amid the uproar.

The White House then failed to hold the near-daily events Saturday and Sunday, even after US coronavirus cases approached one million.
