On Sunday, Mr Trump hinted that he may run for office again in 2024 during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The former President claimed that he would “beat” the Democrats for a “third time” referring to the false claims that he won the 2020 election.

Mr Trump’s return to the public stage has prompted analysts to question who might run by his side.

Reports suggest Mr Trump is weighing his options but is likely to ditch is former Vice President Mike Pence.

According to Bloomberg, Mr Trump “is telling allies he’s strongly considering another run for president in 2024—and close advisers want him to choose someone other than former vice president Mike Pence for his ticket, according to people familiar with the discussions.”

Mr Pence spent four years by Mr Trump’s side as his Vice-President but refused to overturn the 2020 election results.

He also appeared to snub Mr Trump by attending Joe Biden’s inauguration despite the former President’s refusal to make an appearance.

New York Magazine’s Ed Kilgore highlighted how Mr Trump could possibly go for one of his own family members when choosing his running mate.

He wrote: “Something to watch is whether Trump’s own family members, who, like the old man, tend to have happy feet, maintain voting residences in different states, thus avoiding the potential problem of two members of the same presidential ticket being disqualified from receiving their state’s electoral votes.

“There’s something very appropriate about a Trump-Trump ticket in 2024; there would be no brand dilution at all.

“And the idea of a dynastic ticket would give the 45th President time to choose among Junior, Ivanka, and the budding politician Lara, leaving Mike Pence mulling the price of his one moment of independence.”

Mr Trump has previously touted his daughter Ivanka as capable of being the first female US President.

In August last year, he pointed to a crowd of cheering supporters at a New Hampshire rally and said: “They’re all saying, ‘We want Ivanka!’ I don’t blame them.”

During her father’s four years in the White House, Ivanka served as Advisor to the President and the Director of Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship since 2017.

Her husband, Jared Kushner, also served as a senior adviser to his father-in-law President Trump.

During his speech on Sunday, Mr Trump also hinted at a possible 2024 run when he called his wife Melania the “future First Lady”.

Mr Trump told the CPAC Melania “says hello” and “loves you as much as I love you”.

But experts have highlighted how it’s unclear whether Mr Trump will actually run in 2024.

Vanity Fair’s Bess Levin pointed out how Mr Trump spent years “hinting he was going to run for President before he actually did so in 2016”.

Sources also told Bloomberg that Mr Trump “likely won’t make a formal announcement until the summer of 2023”.

During his CPAC speech, Mr Trump also heavily criticised his successor Mr Biden, claiming that US policy had gone from “America first to America last”.

He also continued to push his baseless claims of voter fraud.

Mr Trump said of the Democrats: “Actually as you know, they just lost the White House, but it’s one of those things.

“But who knows, who knows, I may even decide to beat them for a third time.”
