Domino's blame 'big sporting weekend' for shortages after worker was seen buying bags of cheap £1 Asda wedges for their £3.49 side
DOMINO’S Pizza has admitted buying cheap supermarket wedges and selling them for a 250 per cent mark-up.
A staff member from the pizza chain was caught on camera buying £1 bags of potato wedges in bulk from Asda with the packages piled high on the conveyor belt.
Twitter user Sinead Sarah said she saw the Domino's worker in his uniform at the checkout with what appeared to be around 15 bags of the potato snacks.
Sharing a pic of the staff member, she wrote: "Thank you @dominos – next time I spend £3.49 on [a] tiny portion of potato wedges I'll remember there from Asda!!! [sic]"
A spokeswoman for Domino’s said: “With a big sporting weekend, very occasionally some products may run out in our stores.
“We do not advocate this as a solution and are investigating.”

An Asda spokesperson said: "We're pretty impressed by the creativity of this Dominoes colleague, but some might say they are taking the pizza by passing our great tasting wedges off as their own – especially as a single portion from them costs nearly four times as much as an entire kilo bag of our wedges.
"We'd suggest Dominoes customers just cut out the middle man and come to us for an amazing feast of wedges and pizza at a slice of the price!"
The Sun Online has contacted Domino's for further clarification about the incident.
In 2014, Domino’s were criticised when a staff member was seen buying 59p wedges from Aldi.
The worker, from a store in Linlithgow, West Lothian, was spotted at the local Aldi branch by a regular Domino’s customer.
Staff initially claimed the wedges had been for personal use, however bosses later admitted that they had run out of stock due to high demand during the World Cup and Wimbledon.
It has since been revealed that Domino's customers in the UK pay up to four times more for pizza than in other parts of the world.
A large margherita pizza in the UK costs £14.99, but in New Zealand it is just £2.87 – a huge difference of £12.12.
In fact, pizzas are so reasonable in New Zealand that Domino’s is classed as a “cheap takeaway” by locals.
It is a similar situation in Australia, with a large margherita pizza costing just £3.04.
