Dominos and British kebab awards mocked as they pay tribute to the Queen

The UK has been plunged into mourning since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

People across the country have been expressing their grief after the monarch passed away at Balmoral.

While MPs and other public officials have been quick to express their condolences to the royal family, there have also been some other slightly more unusual announcements.

Many companies have been rushing to tweet out announcements about the Queen following her death.

Among the more unusual are the British Kebab awards, who decided to put out a tweet when the Queen passed.

The British Kebab Awards said: "It is with great sadness that we acknowledge Her Majesty the Queen's passing. For 70 years, she stewarded us through our darkest and brightest days. Thank you Your Majesty. RIP".

Another food chain was Domino's Pizza, who went even further than the British Kebab Awards in their tribute. Not only did the popular pizza chain tweet out their statement, they even turned their logo black as a mark of respect.

In a statement tweeted out, Domino's said: "Everyone at Domino's joins the nation and the world in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth Il. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family."

A more unusual company to express their condolences was Poundland, who tweeted: "Rest in Peace Your Majesty. All of us here at Poundland mourn your loss, and honour your life of service."

But toy manufacturer Playmobil had an odd take on their response to the sad news.

The company posted an image of what appears to be a Playmobil figure representing the Queen waving goodbye, alongside a tweet that read: "Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022".

Many companies have been quick to give statements responding to the Queen's passing, though the response from some people reading them has been slightly tongue-in-cheek.

One person responded to the post by Poundland by saying: "This is the most Poundland mark of respect I've ever seen".
