Dog carries an abandoned baby monkey on its back to police station

A dog has been caught on camera giving an abandoned baby monkey a piggyback to a police station.

It is believed the monkey had been separated from its mother and imprisoned by some men who had clamped a collar on its neck, according to local reports.

The baby monkey is seen grasping the hair on the small brown dog's back as they head to a police station in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Astonished onlookers filmed the happy scene as the dog furiously wagged its tail as the baby monkey hitched a ride.

When they reached the station, officers are then seen peeling and feeding the tiny primate a banana.

The monkey was allegedly found by the dog after being abandoned near a lake.

An official said the animal was later handed over to the forest officials.

And this isn't the first time man's best friend has come to the aid of a different species.

In 2018, an Essex Labrador named Fred adopted ten ducklings after their mother was killed.

On other occasions, female dogs have been spotted feeding monkeys their milk.

Dogs are also known to be fiercely protective of their human masters.

Last month a brave puppy died protecting its owner's kids from a deadly snake that bit it four times.

Brothers Oriley and Orion Richardson were washing out Zeus’ water bowl outside the family home in Sumter County, Florida, when they spotted the puppy apparently playing with a piece of rope.

He was actually protecting the young boys from a deadly coral snake that was lurking nearby in their garden.

The whole rescue was caught on CCTV footage, with the heroic pooches seen barking to grab the attention of a passerby, who called police.
