Doctor charged with killing baby stripped of medical practice after Post exposé
He’ll keep the ankle bracelet — but they’ve yanked his stethoscope.
The state Health Department has ordered Brooklyn cardiologist Vignendra Ariyarajah to stop practicing medicine after The Post reported he was treating patients while awaiting trial for the alleged jealousy-killing of his mistress’s baby.
Officials had been shocked to learn Tuesday that Ariyarajah was still seeing patients, even as he wore an ankle monitoring bracelet as part of his $750,000 bail package in the heinous incident.
A Health Department rep said at the time that it’s Office of Professional Medical Conduct was “reviewing all options which under law include moving to immediately suspend a physician’s license pending the outcome of a full investigation.”
On Wednesday, a rep said Ariyarajah has in fact now been ordered to stop.
“Our first priority is ensuring the health and safety of patients seeking medical care in New York State,” the rep said.
“Due to the shocking criminal charges filed yesterday, the Department of Health has taken swift action and ordered the physician to stop practicing medicine in New York State pending the outcome of a full investigation.”
The married, Harvard-trained cardiologist had accomplices hold his pregnant Brooklyn mistress captive and then induce early pregnancy after learning the baby’s father was another man, prosecutors allege.
The baby, born six weeks premature, died after one day.
The doctor is charged with first degree assault of the mistress, Paul Marie Raymond, and with manslaughter for the death of the baby.
