Disney to BAN smoking at its theme parks within weeks

DISNEY will ban smoking at its theme parks within weeks.

The new policy, which is set to take effect later this spring in May, was announced by the company on Thursday.

The blog post read: "There will no longer be smoking areas inside Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks, water parks, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex or California's Downtown Disney.

"Smoking areas will exist outside the entrances of those parks and at Florida's Disney Springs, an outdoor shopping area.

"There will also be smoking areas at Disney Resort hotels."

Disney spokeswoman Erica Ettori told Orlando Sentinel that enforcing the smoking ban will be left to Disney employees, adding that Disney isn't planning to punish people who are caught smoking.

Ettori also said that visitors who were asked to leave for smoking will be permitted to return to the inside of the park after they smoke.

Dennis Speigel, president of Ohio-based International Theme Park Service, said: “It’s about time. It’s the happiest place on Earth.

"Why should people be subjected to smoke at Disney?”

In addition to the smoking crackdown, Disney is enforcing changes to buggy sizes in their parks.

Buggies can be no larger than 78cm wide and 1.2m long, reported Miami Herald.
