Desperate hunt for mum who gave birth to baby boy in hospital toilets before abandoning him

A MUM abandoned her baby after giving birth in a hospital toilet last night – sparking a desperate appeal to trace her.

The baby boy was discovered by staff at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford at around 6pm on Monday.

Medics are caring for the healthy child but are "very concerned" about the mother's health.

Sam Foster, chief nurse of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am appealing directly to the baby’s mother to please come forward to seek medical attention."

Detectives are trawling CCTV footage of the woman before releasing a description of her.

Ms Foster added: “Child birth is a very emotional process, from a physical perspective you will need our medical and midwifery team to check that there are no complications from you giving birth.

“Here at the hospital we have midwives and doctors to give you the care you need and reunite you with your baby boy.

“Please urgently call 01865 740429 to speak to one of the midwives at the hospital who can give you the care you need.

“Or contact 999 and ask to speak to the ambulance service.”

Thames Valley Police have asked anyone who may have seen a distressed woman leaving the hospital after 6pm last night should contact them on 101 quoting reference 1209 18/3/19.
