Denver weather: Sunday temperatures to hit 98 degrees with bad air quality

Don’t forget to drink lots of water today. It’s going to be a hot one.

Denverites can expect to see a high temperature of 98 degrees Sunday, the National Weather Service said. The low tonight is expected to drop to around 61 degrees with a slight evening breeze up to 8 mph.

Air quality around the metro area is expected to be impacted by smoke from the Pine Gulch Fire near Grand Junction. The wildfire has grown to over 20,000 acres under dry, hot conditions. Eastern winds will bring an elevated plume over Interstate 70 over the next several days, the National Weather Service said.

Monday will give the metro area a slight break from the extreme heat before the rest of the week brings several 90-degree days. Tomorrow’s high should be around 88 degrees with a low of 61 and 20% chance of afternoon showers.

Tuesday will be hot again with a high of 94 degrees — a trend that will continue through the rest of the hot, dry week, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
