Denver weather: Snow, warmth and extreme wind ahead – The Denver Post

Big league baseball returns to Colorado this week with Rockies opening day on Thursday. In typical spring fashion Denver will have extreme wind, sun and some snow this week.

Monday’s weather in Denver should be more than 10 degrees over the average, with a high of 71 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. A west wind that could gust up to 47 mph in the city and 75 mph in the high country will strengthen throughout the day. Snow will develop over the higher mountains in the afternoon, then light snow is likely across the mountains tonight and from Denver southward mainly after midnight. Accumulations could reach four inches in the foothills with just a trace downtown as it drops to 23 degrees overnight.

There’s a 40% chance of snow Tuesday with a high near 41 degrees. Winds could once again blow over 20 mph with new snow possibly reaching an inch, and it will fall to near 20 degrees in the evening. Denver is only 2.7 inches of snow away from its snowiest March ever.

The sun will pop back out Wednesday with a high of 53 degrees and a low of 28.

Opening day won’t just be pretty, but the whole weekend could be too. Highs near 70 with sun should kickstart April.
