Denver weather: Heat will near record high in Denver this week

Denver, it’s gonna get hot.

This week’s temperatures will rise into the 80s and the region could see close to a record high on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service at Boulder.

Thursday’s high temperature is expected to hit at least 88 degrees — just short of the all-time hottest temperature recorded in Denver during the month of April. That record was set at 90 degrees on April 30, 1992.

The warm-up starts Sunday, which will see a high around 75 degrees amid partly sunny skies. Scattered thunderstorms are possible across the Front Range on Sunday afternoon and evening, according to the weather service, with potentially high winds and lightning.

Partly sunny weather is expected throughout the week, with temperatures steadily rising until peaking Thursday and dropping slightly on Friday and Saturday. Friday will see a high of 85 and Saturday’s high temperature will be around 79, according to the weather service.

The high temperatures in the latter half of the week will be nearly 20 degrees above average temperatures, according to the weather service.
