Denver weather: Cloudy and cooler temperatures expected through the weekend

Cloudy and cooler weather is expected in the metro area through the weekend with drier weather and heat returning to the forecast on Tuesday.

In Denver on Saturday, mostly cloudy skies will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms as the high temperature tops out at about 73 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The chance for precipitation is 60%.

On Saturday afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely over the mountains and foothills, with the best chance for rainfall in Park, Douglas and Jefferson counties. The western half of the plains can expect a chance of showers and a few thunderstorms, the weather service said. There’s a threat of flash flooding in areas scarred by wildfire.

Tonight in Denver showers and thunderstorms are likely before 9 p.m., according to the NWS forecast. Skies will be cloudy and the low will dip to around 54 degrees. The chance for precipitation in the city tonight is 70%.

On Sunday, showers and thunderstorms are possible in Denver after 9 a.m. and the high temp will hit about 71 degrees under cloudy skies. The chance for precipitation is 40%.

Widespread and scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the region, including the mountain and foothills on Sunday afternoon and into Monday, the weather service said. Flash flooding in burn areas is expected into Tuesday before a warming and drying trend sets up.

On Monday in Denver there’s a 30% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Skies will be partly sunny and the high temperature will climb to near 84 degrees. The heat is back in the city on Tuesday, with sunny skies and a high temperature pushing 90 degrees.
