TWITTER has erupted into a furious debate over the best British chip topping – but what do YOU prefer?

A viral page shared four varieties of toppings, telling users they can only "save one" of mushy peas, gravy, cheese, and curry sauce.

Chips and gravy came out on top – with one person claiming they were a "national treasure."

The post continued: "Chips Cheese and Gravy is a masterpiece that is too good to be true."

But another wrote: "I’m not even British and I know the correct answer is chips and curry."

One user joked: "Chips and gravy. Us northerners bath in the stuff!"

The post was followed by someone writing: "'I class myself as a Northerner so it should be chips and gravy."

Other tweeters were outraged at the mere mention of peas, while the unmelted cheese on one picture sparked fury.

One user wrote: "Jesus Christ what is wrong with you people!?!?!? Peas. Peas??? I can't even right now"

Another added: "Are those just chips with shredded cheese – what the hell?"
