Convicted killer Donald Anthony Grant has eaten his last meal ahead of his execution by lethal injection, which is expected to take place this afternoon.

Grant ordered a Chinese meal consisting of Sesame chicken, three egg rolls, prawn fried rice and a large apple fritter.

The double murderer considerately added an alternative of three pints of strawberry ice cream in case his preferred dessert wasn’t available.

Grant has expressed concerns that something will go wrong with the execution – which is set for 10am local time today.

“I do have concerns that I'm going to be botched,” he told reporters. “It has been told to me two or three different occasions, I will be botched”.

But when asked if he was ready to die, he confidently replied: “You can't stop me. I will be gone momentarily and I'll be back with a vengeance and coming back stronger.”

Grant admitted murdering hotel employees Brenda McElyea and Suzette Smith during a robbery in Del City in July 2001. Confessing to the crime, he said that said he couldn't afford to leave any witnesses.

The crime scene at at the LaQuinta Inn was one of the worst former Midwest City PD chief Brandon Clabes had ever seen in his over 30 years on the job, he told reporter Jessica Bruno Richards.

Grant said that he had planned the robbery because he needed money to bail his girlfriend out of jail. In a written confession, he said that he set off for the hotel "with kill on my mind for whoever's a** is there”.

Manager Brenda McElyea was “begging for her life” when Grant shot her, prosecutors said, and he then shot the front desk clerk, Suzette Smith, in the face three times.

But he didn’t stop there, slitting her throat before clubbing her over the head with a computer monitor, a video recorder and the butt of his gun.

In his confession, Grant recalled that Ms Smith said, "Oh, God," as she lay dying and he replied, "Yeah, it's too late."

Brandon Clabes said:”On that day, evil walked through the door.

"I was shocked. I've dealt with multiple homicides, hundreds of homicides as police chief of Midwest City. I can tell you … this was one of the most heinous and gruesome”.

Grant, 45, has apologised for the killings, blaming “the devil” for the deaths in Del City.

His legal team argues that Grant is severely mentally ill and shouldn’t be executed, adding that if the killing must go ahead it would be more humane to use a firing squad rather than the flawed lethal injection procedure.
