De Blasio delays NYC indoor dining following coronavirus surge

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday slammed the brakes on resuming indoor dining in the city — following a troubling surge in coronavirus cases across the nation.

“The bad news is regarding a situation we’ve seen now all over the country,” the mayor said at his daily press briefing. “We cannot go ahead at this point in time with indoor dining in New York City.

Even a week ago honestly I was hopeful that we could. But the news we’ve gotten around the country gets worse and worse all the time.”

He pointed to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in states like Florida and Texas, which began reopening ahead of New York City.

Outdoor dining was slated to resume in the Big Apple on Monday.
