Dad-of-five killed in helicopter crash horror ‘was on last day in the job’

A dad-of-five who died in a horror helicopter crash was on his 'last day in the job', according to his son.

Paul Troja, 73, was a passenger among 5 killed when the chartered aircraft smashed into Mount Disappointment in Victoria, just north of Melbourne, Australia.

The meat industry entrepreneur had four children and five grandchildren, with one of them born only a few days ago.

His son Luke Troja made the heartbreaking revelation while speaking to 9News this week, describing his father as a devoted man who had worked hard to provide financial security for his family.

He told the news channel: "He saw the value in everyone. People he worked with really trusted him.

"He wanted to spend more time with the family, but he wanted to do one last job to get a bit more money behind him, so he could help us out."

The brother of tech entrepreneur Linda Woodford, another of the victims, meanwhile shared his family's grief by saying they had "never felt emotional pain like this".

The crash is believed to have happened as two helicopter travelled in convoy, with one of them suddenly disappearing.

A widespread search on Thursday morning included a police helicopter and an air ambulance, but was hampered by heavy cloud.

A series of controlled fires around bushland to prevent the outbreak of wildfires could have played a role in reducing visibility, reports The Mirror.

The helicopter is believed to have been operated by a private charter company

Officials from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) arrived at the scene on Friday (1 April) to gather evidence from the crash

Reflecting on the incident, ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell said: "This is the fifth fatal aviation accident this year in Australia and, tragically, nine people have lost their lives across these accidents".
