Dad accidentally shoots own son, 9, in the chest ‘during road rage incident’
A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was mistakenly shot in the chest by his father during a road-rage incident.
The boy was in a car being driven by his dad around 11 p.m. Friday when the man believed he was being followed by another vehicle, ABC News reported.
The father became enraged at the other driver and pulled out a gun to scare them off.
But once they arrived home in the 4500 block of Hershe Street near Lyons Avenue in the Fifth Ward and the father tried to put his gun back into its holster.
It accidentally went off and struck the child in the chest. His father rushed the child to a nearby fire station where he was then transported to Texas Children's Hospital.
The child remains at the hospital where he is in critical condition but expected to survive, police said.
No criminal charges are expected to be filed against the father, who is cooperating with the investigation.

It is unclear if the pair were being followed or if there was an actual road rage incident.

The child was transported to a hospital and is said to be in a stable condition with what are believed to be non-life-threatening wounds.
According to Houston Police Department, she fired a small calibre pistol at the dog three times across a public roadway and in the direction of two occupied houses.
Screaming could then be heard as her son was struck in the abdomen.
