Cuba lawsuits: Claimants seek damages in US courts
Economists say the lawsuits will have a chilling effect on Cuba’s troubled economy.
Americans and naturalised Cubans, whose properties were seized by former leader Fidel Castro, may now seek damages in US courts from foreign companies that profited from the seized lands and businesses.
Their claims total more than eight billion dollars.
The lawsuits were allowed by a change in US policy toward Cuba under the Trump administration.
