Couple who bribed daughter into UCLA to plead guilty

The rich California couple accused of bribing their daughter’s way into UCLA — and onto its elite soccer team — have agreed to plea guilty and cooperate with the government, federal prosecutors said Monday.

Bruce and Davina Isackson will cop to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud after paying college-prep expert William “Rick” Singer around $600,000 to get their non-soccer-playing daughter Lauren into UCLA as an athletic recruit — and to cheat on their younger daughter’s college entrance exams.

Bruce will also plead guilty to money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to defraud the IRS for deducting the payments from their taxes as charitable contributions, prosecutors said.

The couple released a statement saying they “profoundly sorry” — and admitting to embarrassing their kids.

“Our duty as parents was to set a good example for our children and instead we have harmed and embarrassed them by our misguided decisions. We have also let down our family, friends, colleagues and our entire community, ” they wrote.

“We have worked cooperatively with the prosecutors and will continue to do so as we take full responsibility for our bad judgment.”

The Isacksons were among dozens of wealthy parents busted in Singer’s operation last month — and join 11 others who agreed to plead guilty Monday, including actress Felicity Huffman.

But their case garnered particular attention because, unlike his other students Singer helped get named as bogus athletic recruits to schools, Lauren actually joined the college’s soccer team.

She is listed as a midfielder on the Web site for the 2017 Bruins women’s soccer team — which finished second in the NCAA Division I national championship that year — even though she didn’t play in a single game.

The parents paid Singer $251,249 in Facebook stock, which he used to help Lauren secure a spot at the school by paying off the head coach of UCLA men’s soccer, Jorge Salcedo, court documents claim.

The Isacksons then gave Singer another $350,692 worth of unspecified stock to get the answers charged on their daughter’s college entrance exams — and to get her recruited to the University of Southern California as a bogus rowing recruit, prosecutors said.

In a wiretapped conversation between Singer and Bruce about their deals, the dad allegedly freaked out that they’d be exposed, worrying that it would be a “front-page story.”

UCLA did not immediately return a request for comment.
