Could Ivanka Trump snub Donald in 2020? First Daughter’s voting record exposed

Ivanka, known as the First Daughter due to her unusually prominent position in her father’s administration, did not vote for him in the 2016 New York primary, and neither did her brother Eric. This is because both were registered Democrats in the state and had to switch parties in order to vote in the Republican primary. Unfortunately for them, the deadline to switch your registered allegiance in the state was many months before the date of the primary and both missed the deadline.

However, this is not the first time Ivanka has switched her party allegiance and has even donated huge sums to Democrats in the past.

In 2007, she donated $1000 (£770) to the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, who was later branded by her father the “most corrupt politician ever” when they were competing to be the next president.

In 2012, however, the now-First Daughter endorsed Mitt Romney, who was Barack Obama’s Republican rival.

Senator Romney astonished Americans this week when he voted to impeach Mr Trump in defiance of his party.

He said on the Senate floor ahead of the vote that the President “is guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust” and that what he did was “grievously wrong”.

Mr Trump responded that Mr Romney is a “sore loser” and secret Democrat.

After supporting Mr Romney, Ivanka then switched her allegiances again to support Democrat Cory Booker in 2013 when he was running to be a New York senator.

She and her husband Jared Kushner hosted a fundraiser that bundled more than $40,000 (£30,770) into his campaign.

In February last year, Mr Booker announced his intention to run for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 election, but after doing poorly in the polls he announced last month that he was ending his campaign.

Mr Trump is a far cry from Mr Booker, who has broadly supported liberal legislation and in 2018 introduced the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act to limit the President’s powers.

Ivanka even acknowledged at the 2016 Republican National Convention, where her father was the nominee, that she is a swing voter.

She told delegates: “Like many of my fellow millennials, I do not consider myself categorically Republican or Democrat.”

In this way, it is possible that Ivanka could vote Democrat in the presidential election, albeit unlikely.

However, if she were to do this, it is unlikely that she would reveal her betrayal publicly.

Primary season is now upon us again, kicked off as usual with the Iowa caucuses.

In the US, each party’s presidential candidate is chosen via a series of primaries, in which people in each state vote for who they would prefer to be the party’s candidate and then delegates from those states go to the National Convention to vote for them.

The candidate that reaches the threshold of 1,237 delegates will win the nomination.

However, each state holds their primary slightly differently with divergent rules and regulation – and most confusing are the Iowa caucuses.

These were even more confusing this year, due to technical issues with the app.

Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders appear to be neck and neck both in terms of votes and delegates after several days of delays and mistakes from those running the vote.

Next up in the New Hampshire primary on February 11, followed by early voting in Tennessee on February 12, early voting in North Carolina on February 13 and early voting in Nevada on February 15.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has just been acquitted in his impeachment trial, after which Ivanka gave him an adoring hug.

The First Daughter took to Twitter to say; “This factional fever and incoherent, ill-conceived process has finally ended and the President has rightfully been acquitted.

“It is time for our country to move forward. Together.

“POTUS has accomplished so much and is just getting started. The best is yet to come!”
