Coronavirus fears for Queen as servant in regular contact with HM tests positive

One of the Queen's servants has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus, sparking fears for Her Majesty.

The royal footman, whose duties include walking the 93-year-old monarch's beloved pet dogs, comes into regular contacted her and has reportedly been struck down with the deadly Covid-19 bug.

He is now said to be self-isolating at home away from HRH and her 98-year-old husband Prince Philip, while dozens of other royal household staff have returned negative results.

According to the Sun, there remains concern over how much close contact the Queen has had with those who could have been infected with the killer virus.

“Everyone is terrified, not just for themselves but also for the Queen and the Duke," a royal insider told the paper.

“If everyone around them hasn’t been tested yet they should be and I’m sure they will be. There is a palpable sense of fear in the air at the moment.”

The Queen is currently in lockdown at Windsor Castle with Philip, although her access to the Duke is being limited.

It comes after reports that a Buckingham Palace worker had tested positive for coronavirus while the Queen was at her London residence.

Other royal household staff are also believed to have been told to self-isolate as a precaution.

The infected servant, who had been on the royal staff for several years, has been in regular close contact with the Queen for the past six months following a promotion.

His role involves taking Her Maj drinks and food, delivering her mail and messages and introducing guests. He is also tasked with walking her two dogs, Vulcan and Candy.

The insider said it was "terrifying" to think how close he was to the Queen.

They added: “Everyone is wondering — who’s next and what’s next?”

Measures are being taken to minimise risk of infection for the Queen and Duke, with those going into the royal residences split into small teams.

Royal officials have also reportedly discussed plans if there is a death or serious illness in the monarchy.

Royal officials have also met to draw up plans over what to do if the situation deteriorates — or there is death in the monarchy.

Another source told the Sun there was a sense of "unease" after Prince Charles, 71, tested positive for the virus.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said “The Queen is in good health and we are following all the appropriate advice. We do not comment on individual members of staff.”
