Police were called to a holiday park in Devon after a serious incident was reported at a clubhouse today (December 25).

Authorities confirmed there had been an incident of "significant disorder" at Welcome Family Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren, South Devon, in the early hours of Christmas morning.

Witnesses also reported seeing police dogs and even a helicopter at the site, where officers will remain "highly visible" for the next 24 hours following the incident.

Police are reportedly investigating a Grievous Bodily Harm (GBS) related to the incident.

One holidaymaker said the Christmas Day incident meant they had been forced to return home early, DevonLive reported.

They said: "Because of lots of horrendous behaviour from a certain group of people last night, we've had to come home because of it.

"Kids heartbroken and devastated and devastated poor staff are so upset also as they've put a lot of time and work into the entertainment and things that were meant to be happening over the weekend."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "There was an incident overnight. There is still a police presence at the site."

While police stopped short of revealing the exact nature of the incident, unconfirmed reports from social media suggest part of a holiday home was "smashed up" during the occurrence.

Other accounts claim there was "mass fighting" at the holiday park and said staff were "very upset".

Some people added that their Christmas was "ruined" as a result.

Police said: "There was significant disorder at the Welcome Family Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren during the early hours of December 25.

"Police are investigating a GBS [Grievous Bodily Harm] related to the disturbance.

"Police presence in the area will remain highly visible for the next 24 hours to respond to community concerns."
