Cop sacked after disturbing footage goes viral of him tasering black woman

A police officer has been sacked after he was filmed struggling with a black woman and tasering her during her arrest.

Michael Oxford got into a scuffle with Kyndesia Smith, 22, on the porch of her mum’s house in Loganville, Georgia, US.

The Gwinnett County cop was called to the property when a neighbour claimed someone threw a water bottle at her car and threatened to assault her nine-year-old daughter at 7.30pm on Tuesday, August 18.

In the clip, widely shared on TikTok, Oxford argues with the young woman while her mum Aytra Thomas and two other women watch.

Ms Smith says: “You're on our property… I’m not going anywhere.”

The cop reaches for his handcuffs and tells her: “Turn around.”

Ms Smith then backs away and dodges around Oxford, moving behind the bench where her mum is sitting.

Oxford then grabs her by the arms and the bench starts to wobble as they struggle with each other.

“Leave her alone!” someone shouts.

Oxford fails to restrain her and starts shouting, saying: "On the ground!"

He then whips out his taser and it crackles as it fires.

Ms Smith falls and lands in a bed of shrubbery next to the porch while one of the women watching screams.

Oxford then tries to put handcuffs on Ms Smith again, but she grabs her hands away, saying: “Don’t touch me, don’t touch me.”

They then struggle as he wrestles to put the cuffs on.

“Sir! Sir! Do you not understand what you are doing?” the woman recording him asks.

“Stop resisting right now!” he shouts.

“She’s not resisting!” someone says.

The women appear to say Ms Smith is struggling to get up because she has been zapped with the taser.

Gwinnett County Police released a statement in which they said the cop gave Ms Smith “several warnings”.

One of the women on the porch looked like one seen in a neighbour's CCTV throwing a bottle at a car, according to police.

"He attempted to speak with her about the incident but was unable to do so because the defendant in this case, Kyndesia Smith, began yelling at him," police said in the statement.

It also stated: "Ms Smith resisted a lawful command and refused to be placed in handcuffs," the statement said.

"After she was placed in handcuffs she kicked the officer and continued to be uncooperative."

Oxford was initially put on desk duty, but Gwinnett County Police later decided to sack him.

"The investigation in this case has shown that Officer Oxford violated our policy and did not meet our core values," the department said in a statement.

"For this reason, the employment of Officer Oxford has been terminated as of August 21."

Ms Smith’s mum said the arrest “didn’t have to go that way” and critiqued the use of force in an interview with WSB-TV.
