Colorado eatery charges customer for ‘stupid question’ – The Sun
A CUSTOMER at a Colorado diner was left bemused after receiving a bill that included a charge for "1 Stupid Question".
The diner was given the receipt after a meal at the well-known Tom's Diner in Denver.
An image uploaded to Reddit shows the bill and the items included.
"1 Side Mashed Potatoes $2.99," it read.
"1 Chick Tenders Basket $9.00."
And then finally: "1 Stupid Question $0.38."
The person posting the image did not state what question they had asked to incur the charge.
Reddit users reacted to the picture with a mixture of amusement and understanding.
“If I got paid to listen to people's stupid questions I'd probably be a billionaire,” wrote one person.
“They charge you 38 cents? S**t, if I charged for every stupid question I was asked, I'd be… rich,” said another.
A third person added: "Used to work at this spot.
"Tickets for the stupid question go through to the kitchen as well."
A final person sounded more worried.
"If I were to go back, I would never ask a question," they wrote.
But the receipt arguably should not have been a surprise to the customer, because the restaurant lists "Stupid questions", along with the related charge, on the Sides section of its menu.
The option appears between Extra Dressing for $0.50 and Veggie of the Day for $2.00.
It is, though, difficult to know how to avoid the charge.
Asking waiters at the diner what qualifies as a stupid question reportedly itself qualifies as a stupid question.
Tom's Diner is a 24-hour diner in the centre of Denver that has been welcoming customers since it opened in the 1960s.
The restaurant has a loyal fanbase, and was recently added to the government's National Register of Historic Places.
