Putin’s ally Vladimir Solovyov spoke to Russian audiences about the eight-month-long war in Ukraine. The Russian propagandist claimed that the ongoing illegal invasion was not a special operation anymore. Solovyov then claimed that Russia was also at war with NATO. Putin’s own allies have begun questioning why the ongoing invasion has taken so long, as Putin originally claimed it would only take three days.

Mr Solovyov said: “Now on the issue of rationality, this is perhaps the most interesting issue.

“Soon it will be almost eight months since the operation started, and… Well clearly it’s not a special military operation at all anymore.

“Clearly we’re fighting NATO, moreover the stature of NATO is present there.

“Its fighters are now there as well as everyone else.

He added: “I’m not even talking about equipment, intelligence… It’s all there.

“But were we able not to start it on the 24th of February after what we’ve seen happening?”

Putin has been calling the illegal invasion of Ukraine a special operation since the beginning of the onslaught.

In recent weeks he has called for up to 300,000 Russian men to join the battle, which has caused some people in Russia to question the state propaganda line that he has been peddling.

Russian State media outlets have been slamming the West and have been claiming that countries in the West like America pose a great threat.

Social media sites like Instagram have also been banned, making it harder for Russian people to receive information from other news sources.

Western military experts have been explaining that Putin’s original plan to conquer Ukraine within three days has well and truly failed.

Chatham House research fellow, Professor Nikolai Petrov claimed Putin’s original plan has not gone the way he had originally hoped.

Professor Nikolai Petrov said: “First of all, it is understandable that the war is going on in a way, which was not planned and was not expected by Putin.

“He should look for those who are responsible, who misinformed him, who did not provide preparations.

“So, we will see many more serious moves and punishments, perhaps within medium-level or even top-level siloviki in the near future.

“But it doesn’t mean that there is a kind of internal opposition, which can come to the surface.”
