Christmas strikes at UK airports throw festive plans into chaos as flights axed

Brit are set to have their Christmas travel plans thrown into chaos due to strikes.

Members of the PCS union – who work for the UK Border Force – are preparing to go on strike during the business days of the festive period.

The staff responsible for checking your passport when you hop off the plane are preparing to strike from December 23-26 and December 28-31.

The Independent reports the strike action is over a row about pay, pensions and job security.

Travellers heading to Heathrow airport will be among those hit hardest by the chaos.

According to calculations from the flight data specialist Cirium, 583 flights with 126,700 seats are scheduled to arrive at Heathrow on December 23.

The experts added Christmas Day will be the quietest of all the strike dates, with just 83,400 passengers on 352 flights.

But from December 28-30, each day at Heathrow could see 125,000 passengers on 575 flights.

While Glasgow airport anticipates more than 10,000 passengers touching down aboard 85 planes.
