Seven days have elapsed since the devastating terrorist attacks on two Christchurch mosques which saw 50 people lose their lives.

In the aftermath, New Zealand's response to the atrocities has won admiration on the international stage – particularly PM Jacinda Ardern's compassion and her decisive banning of semi-automatic weapons .

Now, a week later, the newspaper from the city that has been shaken by the attacks has paid its own tribute to the victims.

The front page of daily paper  The Press , which is distributed in the region, showed a simple but moving headline: the word "Peace" in Arabic script above the names of the 50 people who lost their lives .

It was not long before people took to social media to praise the poignant design.

"This is so sad but so beautiful," one woman wrote on Facebook .

"So much love. Seeing this gave me a shiver down my spine," another added.

In further tributes one week on, non-Muslin New Zealanders wore headscarves to show solidarity with those impacted the most by last Friday's tragic events.

The call to worship was also followed by two minutes of silence.
