Child seriously injured and four others hurt after car smashes into pedestrians in West Sussex
A CHILD has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a car smashed into a number of pedestrians.
Four other people have also been injured in the crash, which happened shortly after 4.30pm in West Sussex.
Emergency services rushed to College Road, Ardingly and the child was taken to hospital, with others were treated for minor injuries.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We currently have a number of ambulances at the scene of an RTC in College Rd, Ardingly.
"Our crews are treating a number of patients but we are unable to provide further details at present."
Police said they were called to reports of a collision shortly after 4.30pm.
A spokesman told Sussex Live: “One child has been taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.
"Four other people are receiving treatment for minor injuries.
“This is an ongoing matter and no further information is available at this time.
“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 980 of 16/08."
