A starving skeletal dog was dumped outside an animal sanctuary on Halloween suffering serious malnutrition.

CCTV showed someone bringing Casper to the sanctuary on the evening of October 31

Vets said Casper was as low as it was possible to go on a scale measuring his life signs without being dead

And as these shocking photographs show, Casper’s bones can be clearly be seen jutting out under his skin.

Steph Taylor, from Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, said it was believed Casper was around eight years old.

She said: ‘The vet said his body score was the lowest it could have been, there was no fat or muscle on his body at all, he’s just skin and bone.

‘It gave us a bit of a fright on Halloween, it seemed like a real-life skeleton had arrived at the door.’

Vet David Donovan said Casper was in a terrible state when he was abandoned.

Casper did not have any muscle or fat because of the level at which he had been starved

Casper will be rehomed in the Last Chance Hotel in Cornwall which is set on 24 acres of land

He said: ‘He is now being fed regularly to build him up and we are investigating to see if he has any underlying medical conditions.’

Ms Taylor said whatever the outcome of tests Casper will be cared for at the Last Chance Hotel in Cornwall where he will get lots of food and walks.

Manager Sam B’Stard, from Last Chance Hotel, said they felt Casper needed a sanctuary as opposed to be being adopted, and he will be arriving on Wednesday.

She said: ‘We’ve got 24 acres here in Cornwall and it’s very peaceful and quiet and his needs will be better suited here.

‘Obviously when he is fit and healthy he might need something different. For now, he needs sanctuary space.’
