Camilla has revealed she has had "a half-hug" with her grandkids – even though cuddles are banned under coronavirus rules.

The Duchess of Cornwall, 73, reportedly admitted to having a "sort of half-hug" after having both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

"I have been able to, I have had a hug. I am doubly jabbed so, umm, we’ve had a sort of half-hug," she told the Telegraph.

"It’s been so lovely just to be able to see them again and talk to them.

"You know, telephones and machines and these Zooms are fine, but nothing’s ever the same as being able to give somebody a good hug."

She said she was waiting for the final date when they will be allowed to go into each other's homes and sit down together for a proper lunch.

The Duchess, who has five grandchildren, added that she will be thrilled to be together with them again, rather than waving from "miles away".

Speaking to the BBC last year, Camilla said missing her grandchildren was "the worst", the Mirror reports.

"You eventually get to meet them, you're so excited because you haven't seen them for three-and-a-half months and your first reaction is to run up and hug them, and you have to sort of put up your hands," she said at the time.

Family and friends will be allowed from next week as long as people use their common sense, it has been revealed.

Boris Johnson is expected on Monday to announce that loved ones not from the same household or bubble can legally embrace one another from May 17 – the first time in 15 months.

Johnson is likely to say that everyone should use their "personal judgment" and their "common sense", and it depends on infections remaining low ahead of that key lockdown date, the Sunday Telegraph reports.

Downing Street played down but did not deny the reports last night, claiming no decisions had been made.

But Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove confirmed the plan is to restore hugging from May 17 between friends and family.

"As we move into Stage Three of our roadmap, it will be the case that we will see people capable of meeting indoors," he told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show.

"And without prejudice to a broader review of social distancing, it is also the case that friendly contact – intimate contact – between friends and family is something we want to see restored."

Asked if that meant hugging from May 17, he replied: "Yes."
