Cadbury under fire over Easter egg packed with 17 DAYS’ worth of sugar

The startling sugar content data comes as figures suggest more than one third of under-15s in the UK are classed as overweight or obese.

The National Obesity Forum has blasted the Easter treat, labelling it as “a real risk to health”.

Cadbury owner Mondelez says the Easter treat is designed to be shared, and to be consumed over a longer time frame.

Other eggs also slammed for high sugar content include the Maltesers Crunchy Easter Egg plus additional treats (271.5g sugar), Nestle Smarties chocolate egg with Smarties tube (261g) and the Cadbury Dairy Milk with Oreo large Easter Egg with two chocolate bars (195g).

Obesity is a common problem in the UK, with 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children affected.

Being overweight or obese can increase a person’s risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, cancer, reduced fertility, osteoarthritis and sleep apnoea.
