- Cuts to bus services were avoided last month due to £130million in funding
Bus journeys will be capped at £2 next year to ease the cost-of-living crisis.
The limit will apply to single journeys in England from January to March – saving some passengers more than £3 a trip.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, who announced the plan last night, said: ‘Buses are by far and away the most used form of public transport, so ensuring almost all bus journeys are no more than £2 will assist passengers over winter and provide direct help to thousands of households.

‘This £60million boost will mean everyone can affordably get to work, education, the shops and doctors’ appointments.
‘We know people will be feeling the pressure of rising costs, so we have been working hard to provide practical, concrete help.’
Bus operators representing 90 per cent of the market back the plan. Alison Edwards, of the Confederation of Passenger Transport industry body, called it ‘eye-catching’.
Paul Tuohy, of the Campaign for Better Transport pressure group, said: ‘This will be very welcome news for millions of people.’
Severe cuts to bus services in England were avoided last month thanks to £130million in Government funding.
