Burglary gangs disguise themselves in hi-viz workwear for terrifying break-ins

BURGLARY gangs are disguising themselves in hi-viz workwear to gain access to homes for terrifying break-ins.

Police are on the lookout for five suspects in London after a man posed as a delivery driver before four others rushed inside a house in Walthamstow.

The man knocked on the door of the home on Monday in hi-viz gear on Monday at 2.30pm.

Once the resident opened the door, four other suspects armed with knives forced their way into the address.

The suspects entered several rooms in the house, searching for valuable items to steal before taking jewellery, phones, passports, iPads, a designer handbag, ear pods, ID cards and designer watches.

Meanwhile in Bedfordshire, locals have been sharing a video of a man in hi-viz who was arrested yesterday while attempting to break into a home in luton.

A man shared the footage to a Facebook group called “Spotted Luton Desi” of neighbours pinning down the suspect until police arrived.

He said: “Just to let you know our neighbour just had an attempted break in.

“Two guys in hi-viz tried to break in through the front door. One guy was pinned down by neighbours (was arrested) and the other guy got away.

“Sharing this as we all open up our doors to people in hi-vis clothing. This happened in LU2 Old Bedford/Ringwood Road a few hrs ago.”

One commenter claimed their local neighbourhood watch had sent out an email about the events.

It read: “Stay safe all: Foxbury Close, Luton – 13/01/2021 17:24 – two males in high viz have attended location pretending to be from the waterboard, they have pushed past the two victims and entered the location shoving the female IP onto the sofa.

“Neighbours have heard the commotion and one offender has been detained until police arrive.”

Bedfordshire Police has been approached for comment.

There have been no arrests for the Walthamstow burglary and enquiries into the incident continue.

Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses or information in relation to the suspects that could help them identify them.

Anyone with information or who recognises the suspects is asked to contact police via 101 quoting reference CAD 3600/11JAN21 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
