Two bungling burglars made a slapstick attempt of breaking into a house after it was caught on CCTV.
Jamie James, 28, and William Napier, 43, left the home in Runcorn, Cheshire, empty handed after a botched attempt of breaking into various premises.
In the baffling clip, James, who is wearing a black hoodie, tries to scale the side of a building but his feet keep sliding down, on August 19.
He grips on for dear life but keeps failing to get steady.
Jamie James (pictured in black hooded jumper) and William Napier attempted to break into a property in Runcorn, Cheshire, but CCTV revealed the extent of their botched attempt, on August 19
Napier holds his back to try and lift him, as the hooded figure takes baby steps.
Figuring out that this is not working, second man then crouches under his friend to give him a sturdy support.
Moments later, he shifts so he is almost sitting on his friend’s back and desperately tries to fiddle with the window, while holding a cigarette in his mouth.
He persists on pushing the window as though the duo are hoping something will give way.
But after a few seconds, Napier lets go and James quickly hops down.
The pair make time for a cigarette break during the failed robbery. Napier tries his luck at kicking the back gate before James then launches himself at it, in the hope it will be forced open
The clip then jumps to James yanking the back gate while his friend stands next to him idly and whips out a cigarette.
They appear to have some conversation but it cannot be heard in the video.
While the brazen James concentrates on the door, his friend lights his cigarette.
Napier turns against the door and rests his foot to try and kick it open with force as his friend looks as though he is offering words of encouragement.
After failing to gain entry to a library, the duo went on to targeting Shaw’s butchers, Vape Hut shop and an occupied flat but were unable to get inside any of them, in the early morning of August 19
The pair had left a trail of fingerprints and handprints on door handles, a window and even an outdoor toilet as they traipsed from one failed break-in to the next
Clearly unsatisfied, his friend tries to gesture for him to move away from the door and runs up to it at great speed – perhaps in the hope it will propel open.
And yet again, he is filmed weighing up his different options while his friend does not appear like he wants to be there.
This burglars gave up after the headlights of a police van flooded the area. They were later caught thanks to fingerprints they left after their hands were covered in anti-vandal grease.
They had left a trail of fingerprints and handprints on door handles, a window and even an outdoor toilet as they traipsed from one failed break-in to the next.
The pair were moved to Runcorn, Cheshire, to get clean from heroin but instead ended up taking drugs and guzzled booze.
They began a crime spree in the early hours on August 19 this year by attempting to break into a library.
After failing to gain entry, they went on to targeting Shaw’s butchers, Vape Hut shop and an occupied flat but were unable to get inside any of them.
James was jailed for 23 months and a week – and had previously been convicted 26 times for 48 offences.
Meanwhile Napier has received a three-year-sentence at Chester Crown Court and had 60 convictions for 137 offences.
Detective Constable Paul Cullen said: ‘James and Napier have been prolific theft and burglary offenders in the North East of England and I hope that whilst servicing their custodial sentences they reflect on the lives they have been leading and change their ways.’
