THIS was the moment Spanish cops brutally broke up a vicious street fight between Roma travellers in front of shocked tourists in a busy Madrid square.

Officers from Spain's Guardia Civil were caught on camera as they torpedoed towards the brawling men before battering them.

In the footage, one of the fighters is sent crashing to the ground after a cop punches him in the face.

An officer is also seen raising his baton while one of the men cowers on the ground.

The clip also shows the officers booting some of the brawlers in a violent attempt to break up the fight.

Several women who were also involved in the incident were called over to help break up the fight in Puerta del Sol Square.

One of the women is seen kicking out at a man before somebody rips off her headscarf.

According to the cameraman, the police arrested the people involved in the fight.
