Brits back in Europe: Bookings to holiday hotspots SURGING despite Brexit

Holidays to top European holiday destinations have soared by 167% from this time last year.

Travel firms reckon the strengthening pound is helping to drive up value for money on the continent.

Financial exchange expert David Lamb said: “Europe’s proximity and familiarity has always given it an advantage over other travel destinations, but the pound’s rise against the Euro in 2019 has boosted the Eurozone’s appeal even further.

“Because sterling has risen more than 3% against the Euro, scores of Brits will flock to the familiar shores of the Mediterranean this summer.

“That difference is giving the Eurozone a decisive edge, and it’s telling that even at the under-pressure Thomas Cook, Spain is the most popular destination.”

During the first four months of 2019, the travel industry spent a fifth less (19%) on US bookings than it did during the same period in 2016, just before the EU referendum.

In contrast, our spending on Eurozone destinations has soared by a staggering 598% over the past three years.
